There are various legends of Kızkumu told among local people. Here is one of the most well known ones;
Once upon a time, a young girl as beautiful as a mermaid living in the area wished to reach her lover at the other side of the coast. She filled her skirt with sand and began walking on the sea forming a path spilling the sand in her skirt. But soon she ran out of sand and could not make it to the other side. She got lost where she ran out of sand before reaching her lover.
It is believed that this beautiful young girl’s grave is at the end of Kızkumu. This place is known as Kızkumu (meaning ‘the sand of the girl’ in Turkish) from then on.
When walking along this 600-meter long path in the sea, locals and visitors make a wish and believe that their wishes will come true…
