Dalyan Delta & Caretta Carettas (Loggerhead sea turtles)

Dalyan delta, which is a wonder of nature 115 km away from Orhaniye is the final spot we are to mention in the north of Orhaniye.

The name of the long-beaked colorful bird that shows up all of a sudden in the reeds where approximately 180 bird species live and presents you a “fish catching show” is the Bee-eater, also known as the Kingfisher.

A lot of bird watchers from all around the world come to Dalyan to see the rare bird species living in this area.

İztuzu Beach, which is proclaimed winner in the category Best Open Space (Europe) in 2008, is an unparalleled beach with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and freshwater on the other. İztuzu Beach, a wonder of nature, is 5400 m long from the foot of Radar Hill to Dalyan Strait.

The fine sand of this beach is very convenient for Caretta carettas (Loggerhead sea turtles) to lay their eggs. You can go to the western side of the beach (Dalyanağzı – Dalyan outfall) by boat and to the eastern side (İztuzu) overland.

People of Dalyan have protected Caretta carettas for centuries. And these adorable animals have not only saved the coast of Dalyan from getting covered with buildings, but also contributed immensely to making this natural wonder world wide known.
Since they are consumed as food in the Far East and have many natural enemies, Caretta carettas (Loggerhead sea turtles) are in danger of extinction, and one of their last remaining breeding sites is İztuzu Beach in Dalyan.

For there are so many people who want to see Caretta carettas, a new type of trip is started in recent years: Caretta caretta watching tours

It is stated that of all the bird species living in Dalyan, 154 species stay for the whole year or from time to time. Storks coming to Dalyan in March raise their young and migrate in August.

Kaunos Kings’ Tombs:
The restaurants and cafes by Dalyan Delta River which connects Lake Köyceğiz to the Mediterranean Sea are single floor and in harmony with the view. One of the best views for sure is that of Kaunos Kings’ Tombs carved into the rocks on the right side on the way to İztuzu.
The magnificent view of Kaunos Kings’ Tombs that manage to stand for 3000 years leaves one speechless.
